Your district has been notified under NREGA w.e.f. 01/04/2007.

2. In order to discuss the preparation for implementation in the new NREGA districts, a Workshop has been convened at New Delhi on April 10, 2007 at Vigyan Bhawan from 10.00 a.m onward. The District Programme Coordinator (DPC) along with one more senior official involved in the implementation of NREGA in the new district will attend this Workshop.

3. Statutory processes as laid down under the Act would become effective with notification that will be with effect from April 1, 2007. Certain critical activities would have been initiated, such as (a) printing of essential documents and making them available at GP and block level, (b) preparation of shelf of projects, (c) initiating information, education and communication campaign to apprise the stake holders about the Programme and processes, (d) training of functionaries involved in implementation of the Programme and (e) designating key personnel like DPC and Programme Officer.

4. DPCs are expected to have familiarized themselves on the Act, National Guidelines on NREGA, Guidelines on preparing a new district after notification and to plan and monitor their activities against the checklist. All these documents are available on www.nrega.nic.in.

5. Some advance funds for preparatory action and starting works in case all processes are completed has been released. Further funds release will based on a thorough review with each district on its preparation on April 10^th, 2007.

6. State Governments have been requested to ensure that DPC’s attend this Workshop along with one additional district official involved with NREGA.
